Community Safety & Supports

Home Safety Blog

Are you finding it challenging to handle your rubbish bins or concerned about home safety and maintenance?

Managing rubbish bins and maintaining home safety can be challenging, particularly for those with mobility issues or disabilities. From bin collection assistance to home safety assessments and maintenance support, these services aim to enhance the quality of life and provide peace of mind for those who need it most.

Council Bin Collection Services

For those who may find it challenging to manage their rubbish bins, some councils offer services where bins can be collected directly from your home. These services can help alleviate the risk of falls and injuries associated with managing heavy bins.

Here are the details for local councils:

  • Moreton Bay Regional Council: Bin collection assistance is available for residents who are infirm, have significant mobility issues and have no able-bodied person living at their address. If it is safe for the waste collection contractor, you can receive help. Submit an application online.
  • Brisbane City Council: Council can arrange for bin collection from within your property if you are infirm, have a physical or sensory disability, no able-bodied person lives at your address, you don't have a neighbor or next of kin nearby to help place your bin out for collection, and the collection point for your bins does not pose a safety risk to staff. To apply for bin collection assistance, call the Council on 3403 8888.

Home Safety Assessments
Another essential aspect of community safety is ensuring your home is secure and safe. Queensland Police offer free home security assessments through their Gateway Crime Prevention Unit.
