Canasta

What is Canasta?

Canasta is a strategic card game where players form melds of cards to score points. Often played with two decks, it’s popular for its blend of skill and luck, and can be enjoyed by players of all levels.

How to Play Canasta

Players are dealt 11 cards and aim to create melds of seven cards of the same rank, known as canastas. The game uses two decks, including jokers, and continues until one team reaches a set point total.

Canasta Rules

  • Dealing: Each player gets 11 cards; the rest form the draw pile.
  • Gameplay: Draw and discard cards to form melds. A canasta is a meld of seven cards.
  • Going Out: The game ends when a player discards their last card. Points are tallied for melds.
  • Winning: The first team to reach the target score, usually 5,000 points, wins.

Play "Hand and Foot" Canasta

"Hand and Foot" is a variant using three to six decks, adding complexity. Players have two sets of cards: a "hand" and a "foot," adding a new strategic element to the game.
