Exciting Changes Coming to Aged Care: What You Need to Know

The Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety has outlined 148 recommendations aimed at improving aged care services across Australia.

These changes, set to be implemented by 1 July 2025, are designed to enhance the quality of care, promote independence and give older Australians more choice and control over their services.

• New Aged Care Act: Giving older Australians more rights when accessing government-funded
  services, ensuring respect and dignity.
• Stronger Quality Standards: Higher standards to guarantee better care, respect, and dignity
  for people in aged care.
• New Aged Care Regulatory Model: A new system to improve quality and compliance in aged care.
  Support at Home Program: Replacing Home Care Packages with a more flexible and seamless
  care system, with the Commonwealth Home Support Programme transitioning by 2027.
• First Nations Aged Care Assessment System: A simplified system to make it easier for First
  Nations people to access aged care.
• New Worker Screening: Ensuring smooth screening processes for aged care workers
  without interruptions.
• Supported Decision-Making: Older Australians can choose people to assist in their decisionmaking
  under the new Aged Care Act.
