Poppy Project

ANZAC Day Community Knitting & Crochet Project

The QLD Country Women's Association (QCWA) Sandgate is creating a beautiful poppy display for Anzac Day 2025 and they need your help! Join us to knit or crochet red poppies with black centres to contribute to this meaningful tribute.

Here’s how you can get involved:

  • Make Poppies at Home: If you prefer to work at your own pace, simply knit or crochet the poppies and drop them off at our Reception (60 Kuran St, Chermside).
  • Join our Members Knitting & Crochet Group: Come along to our weekly sessions and enjoy the company of others while working on your poppy.
  • Come to Club Respite: Create poppies together with us in our fun and friendly craft group.
Knitted Poppys

Poppy Requirements

  • Knit or crochet red poppies with black centres, 8-10cm in diameter.
  • The ply (thickness) of the yarn doesn’t matter.
  • Important: leave 2-4 tails of 20cm (8")—do not cut them off, as they are required to attach the poppies to the netting.

Materials & Notions

  • Red and black yarn (8 or 10 ply, DK or Worsted recommended)
  • Knitting needles or crochet hook to suit your yarn
  • Darning needle
  • Scissors

Your involvement will help QCWA create a beautiful and heartfelt display for Anzac Day 2025. Thank you for being part of this special community project!

We’ll be collecting poppy donations until Monday 24th February, so grab your yarn and let’s craft for a cause.
