ANZAC Day Community Knitting & Crochet Project

The QLD Country Women's Association (QCWA) Sandgate is creating a beautiful poppy display for Anzac Day 2025 and they need your help! Join us to knit or crochet red poppies with black centres to contribute to this meaningful tribute.

You can participate in a number of ways: make poppies at home and donate them, join us in our Members Knitting & Group Group or come along to Club Respite to create them together in a fun, community environment. Every poppy helps us work towards our goal of a stunning Anzac Day display.

Poppy Requirements

  • Knit or crochet red poppies with black centres, 8-10cm in diameter.
  • The ply (thickness) of the yarn doesn’t matter.
  • Important: leave 2-4 tails of 20cm (8")—do not cut them off, as they are required to attach the poppies to the netting.

Materials & Notions

  • Red and black yarn (8 or 10 ply, DK or Worsted recommended)
  • Knitting needles or crochet hook to suit your yarn
  • Darning needle
  • Scissors
