Mental Health Support

In times of crisis or recovery, mental health can be just as important as physical health.

The emotional and psychological toll of dealing with the aftermath of a disaster can feel overwhelming, and it’s important to know that you don’t have to go through it alone. If you or someone you know is struggling with their mental health, there are several trusted organisations available to provide help and support, including Beyond Blue and Lifeline.

Government Hardship Support

If you’ve been impacted by ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred, several Personal Hardship Financial Assistance grants are now available to support your recovery:

  • Emergency Hardship Assistance - Financial support to those who are experiencing significant hardship as a result of the cyclone. It is intended to help with basic needs, such as food, clothing, and temporary accommodation. If your home or personal circumstances have been severely impacted, this grant can provide a crucial safety net while you begin to recover.
  • Essential Services Hardship Assistance - If you have been affected by damage to essential services like electricity, gas or water, this grant can help alleviate some of the financial burdens. It supports the costs of reconnecting services or covering expenses for temporary alternatives while essential utilities are restored.
  • Essential Household Contents Grant - For many, the cyclone may have damaged or destroyed essential household items like furniture, white goods, and personal belongings. This grant can help replace critical household contents that are necessary for daily living, allowing you to get back on your feet more quickly.
  • Essential Services Safety and Reconnection Scheme - Providing financial assistance to ensure that essential services such as power, water, and communications are restored safely and efficiently to your home. Whether it's a damaged power line or a broken water supply, this grant can assist with the cost of reconnecting services.
  • Structural Assistance Grant - If your home has sustained significant structural damage, this grant can provide financial support for repairs. Whether it's a damaged roof, broken windows, or structural instability, this grant can help you restore the safety and security of your living space.
