1. Arrange an assessment with My Aged Care

To access Home Care Packages, individuals must undergo an assessment by the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT). Eligibility is based on specific needs and age requirements, 65 years or older (50 years or older for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people). If eligible, clients can choose Burnie Brae as their care services provider.

Note: If you are on a low income, homeless or at risk of being homeless, and aged 50 years or older (45 years or older for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people), please contact My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 to discuss your situation.

2. Complete an income test with Centrelink
Have your income tested by Centrelink to determine whether or not you need to contribute financially towards your care.

3. Await package/funding allocation

After the assessment, there will be a waiting period before you receive your package and funding from the government. Once your package is allocated, you can begin utilising the funding for the care services you need.

Expected wait-time: Each individual’s case will be assessed by priority, with higher-priority cases serviced first. If you or your loved one are starting to consider home care, it is recommended you take action as early as possible. According to My Aged Care’s website, individuals can expect to wait approximately three to six months before being assigned a Home Care Package.

4. Contact Burnie Brae to discuss your needs and preferences

5. Start your services once your package is allocated
Once you have reviewed the required paperwork, our team will match you with the most suitable support staff to help you achieve your goals. We’ll visit you to keep up with any changes and adjust your Care Plan and Home Care Individual Budget as needed.
