Prepare your Home for Storm Season

As storm season approaches, it’s crucial to take proactive steps to ensure your home is ready to withstand severe weather. Not only can this protect your property, but it can also keep you and your loved ones safe.

To assist with these preparations, funding may be available through our Home Assist Secure program, making it easier for you to tackle essential home maintenance tasks. Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to prepare your home effectively and take advantage of available support.

Here’s how you can get ready:

  • Inspect Your Roof: Start by checking for any loose tiles, rust, or damaged shingles. Addressing these issues now can save you from costly repairs down the line.
  • Clear Your Gutters: Make sure to clear your gutters of leaves and debris. Clogged gutters can lead to water overflow, which might cause leaks and water damage to your home.
  • Trim Overhanging Branches: Trim any branches that could fall during a storm. Strong winds can easily break them, posing a risk to your roof and windows.
  • Seal Windows and Doors: Inspect window seals for cracks and repair them to prevent water intrusion. Ensure doors are also properly sealed to keep rainwater out.
  • Maintain a Tidy Yard: A neat yard can prevent debris from becoming projectiles in high winds. Remove any leaves, rubbish, or loose items that could be blown around during a storm.
