Garden Maintence

Do you need a hand around the house to do gardening, minor maintenance jobs or to improve accessibility?

Home Assist Secure provides government-funded support to help older Queenslanders with critical home maintenance needed to keep you safe at home. We come to your home to help you with things like repairs, minor modifications, safety and security upgrades.

What support services are provided?

Basic Garden Maintenance

  • Lawn mowing
  • Hedge trimming/pruning
  • General yard tidying
  • Gutter cleans

Minor Home Repairs

  • Fixing or replacing door locks
  • Fixing leaking taps & toilets
  • Minor plumbing or electrical work
  • Replacing light bulbs
  • Fridge & washing machine repairs

Home Safety Improvements

  • Installing security lighting & locks
  • Fitting grab rails, ramps, easy access taps
  • Safety devices
  • Mending faulty powerpoints
  • Supply and install key safe
  • Home security assessments
  • Referrals for larger projects

Smoke Alarm Installation Program

New regulations mandate the replacement of existing smoke alarms with interconnected models. A one-time subsidy of $250 is available through Home Assist Secure, to help cover the cost of installing compliant smoke alarms, including labour and parts.

If you need additional support services not covered by the Home Assist Secure program, you may be eligible for the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) or Home Care Packages (HCP).

How much home assistance is provided?

  • You can receive up to $500 per financial year towards labor costs, with a limit of $200 per job.
  • Material costs are your responsibility
  • The total cost for one job, including labor and materials, cannot exceed $1,500.
  • Receive $80 per year for security and safety hardware
  • One-time subsidy of $250 towards the labor and installation of interconnected smoke alarms (until 30 June 2025).

Getting started

Are you eligible for Home Assist Secure funding?

You may be eligible if you:

  • are 60 years of age or older, or of any age with a disability
  • are unable to undertake the work yourself or be at risk if you did attempt to do the work without assistance
  • are not accessing alternative assistance programs, such as the Commonwealth Home Support Program or the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.
  • hold a current Pensioner Concession Card
  • are the owner occupier of a house, townhouse or unit
  • live in your own home or in rental housing (with your landlord’s consent).

Note: only one application for funding is allowed per eligible household.
